Current week is in red, past weeks are below.
April 4, 2019

Unfortunately the semester is already heading to its end . . . because, especially with our class I feel, we really "just" warmed up to get going ... but it is what it is.

We are grateful for the organization of LLI offering these programs at such a low price, an astounding selection of classes that attracts so many diverse people, eventually creating a wonderful sense of community. I very much love it.

It was my spring board daring to try something totally new, becoming a sort of teacher :)) . . .

Long words short:

I have created a small quizlet with ten new irregular verbs.

[Click] (Quizlet) Ten New Irregular Verbs

Please try to make some time to study them.

We'll be using those to get a bit deeper into our grammar, work some and then finish out with some cookies and punch.

Sounds like a plan?

For this week please try to create your own sentences with the work sheet provided in class.

[Click] Work Sheet - Forming Sentences

Make sure to pay close attention to the cases as well! Sometimes you need to remember that some prepositions require the special case etc. :)).

If you feel pretty comfortable, you can then switch things around. Start with the object or the time or form a "yes/no question"

We'll go from there next week.

I'm also attaching our "holy sheet" as far as it looks right now. Please double check whether yours looks similar.

Mantel wieder rausholen! ... by next Thursday, however, we rather likely will be back to spring temperature, hm?

Spring Break Challenge:

Please go back to your writing of your weekly schedule.

Try to put your schedule into the conversational past now.

It might help to read my writing piece from the third week (email #3): Was ich gemacht habe ...
[Click] Past Tense Conversation Piece
[Click] Past Tense Conversation Piece (Audio)

We have not talked about it much yet, but you can see in my sample: the past participle has to go at the very end of a sentence.

Let me show a bit here:

Ich arbeite im Garten.

Ich habe im Garten gearbeitet.

Ich habe am Samstag im Garten gearbeitet.

Ich habe am Samstag von 2-4 im Garten gearbeitet.

If you feel uneasy, stay with very short sentences. Then slowly add a day, or a day time, and then a day and a daytime . . . and so forth.

I might add a few more verbs to our list some time soon. But this should be it for today, ok?

But do NOT stop studying your verbs and always look through our "holy sheet" of irregular verbs; they need constant attention :))

[Click] Past Participles Construction Overview
(Different Ways To Form The Past Participle)

Next week we will practice on these "past participle forming principles" (gosh - what a BIG word; not to worry!). For that I'm expanding last week's quizlet with a few more verbs.

[Click] (Quizlet) More Verbs

You'll see that for some you only get the infinitive form and for some you are getting an additional past participle with bin, for some even an additional present tense form. Don't get intimidated by that. Try to study as well as possible; next week we will work in two groups and each group member can provide some input for the greater good of the whole group.

Looking forward to that!!! :))

Thinking again about Myrna's question what the difference is between vermischen and just mischen and then the "gemischte" Verben ... Ich habe gegoogelt.

Well: Think about doing water coloring and mixing blue and yellow.... Farben vermischen, Farben mischen is not THAT different, almost interchangeable. but, if you have a deck of cards you will: ... die Karten mischen (so to speak you have one single substance)
that sounded to me as the best explanation. Here is a link discussing the difference:
[Click] Difference between vermischen and mischen

Enough for tonight.

Y'all have a wonderful weekend, then three good days of practice and ...

Wir sehen uns frisch und munter nächsten Donnerstag.

I'm using these verbs in this little writing piece below (I'm also attaching an audio for this for your pronunciation practice), which provides sufficient new grammar for at least the next two lessons.

Here is a practice sheet for you to fill out. Please use your newly gained or freshly updated knowledge to create the correct conversational past forms!

Wohoo - that's the pay back since you did not receive a single print out yesterday, ok? Lot's to look through, listen to, study. Hope it's helpful.

Here are clock faces numbered for analog (informal) and digital (= formal) readings.
Read those numbers aloud to yourself!

(Also see the following from the first week's lesson):
[Click] Times of the day
[Click] Times of the day (Audio)

Study the above and then print the following form with the blank clock faces
[Click] Blank Clock Faces
Now draw the following digital times:

1) zwanzig Uhr fünfundvierzig
2) drei Uhr siebzehn
3) achtzehn Uhr dreißig
4) null Uhr
5) dreizehn Uhr fünfzehn
6) fünf Uhr siebenundfünfzig

write the digital times in numbers below the clock, e.g.:

vierzehn Uhr achtzehn - 14:18

After this practice turn the page and draw in the hands with the following analog (informal) descriptions:

1) Es ist zwanzig nach drei.
2) Es ist viertel vor zehn.
3) Es ist halb elf.
4) Es ist kurz vor fünf.
5) Es ist viertel nach sieben.
6) Es ist kurz nach halb sechs.

Here are the solutions. ONLY READ AFTER YOU HAVE DONE THE EXAMPLE.

Second:
I'm adding a weekly schedule of mine.
