I graduated high school 1963 enlisted in the USNR, after boot camp and
radio school, I was stationed on the USS Valley Forge LPH 8, (carrier
from WW II) For the next 2 the ship sailed several trips to Viet Nam,
the Phillipines, Japan, etc.

I had made a decision to join Maryknoll, my senior year of High
School. My time spent in the Phillipines was especially significant as
I made contact by mail with a MM priest in the phillipines, sadly,
even though invited, I was too chicken to chance the air flight to his
island and get back to the ship. We never stayed long in any one
place. I did get lost on leave, in Yokoska (sp) Japan, and that was a
bit unnerving.

Entered GE in Sept 1967 as a freshman. Completed my 2nd year, then for
several reasons didn't return. I was very sad of my decision, it was
not theirs. I loved that place but my academics and my problem with
being unmarried for life just didn't work.

I am now 68 yr old, a retired carpenter, who spent life supporting my
wife, a teacher, for well over 30 years, with many of them in low
income areas. I guess that is where God wanted me.
