Hal attended Lewis College law school - successor to Mkl at GE)

Hal Savage

Thanks for getting back to me so soon. I have some pictures of the
bldg. from the ol' law school days, but unfortunately I do not have a
scanner on my computer. However I can get them re produced at a place
near to my office and send them to you. They are probably not as good
as yours are ,but you might find them interesting.

You were in GE way before I got there (grin) ,but chances are it
hadn't changed that much from the time you left till 1975 when I
finally got there. Roaming through GE this past September 08' the
town has pretty much remained the same. A very nice quaint town. By
the bye... in case you didn't know ..... way back in 1986 the school
was used in a movie. The movie is called 'Lucas' and it stars
Charlie Sheen and Corrie Hamn. It's kind of a coming of age movie
and they used the front entrance as a hospital shot and most of the
movie was shot in downtown GE and a few scenes were even shot at Glen
bard West High School. The scene then goes on to show the immediate
inside of the lobby as you would turn to the left heading towards the
library. Then there is a shot of one of the classrooms on the first
floor ,up the first flight of steps (used as a hospital room) heading
towards the entrance to the Chapel on the right hand side of the
hall. You can probably get it on DVD and you'd probably enjoy seeing
the school. I guess we could say that the ol' joint had one last
harrah of having a movie shot there before they tore it down.

As for the downtown GE area the movie theater is still there and
the railroad still operates. However it's no longer the Chicago
Northwestern. It's now called the Regional Transportation
     Railway.... ( I think)

The really strange part is that when you stand on the property
where the front faculty parking lot used to be... approximately
40 feet away is a housing development. Believe me it is so
strange to think that when you stand there and look there are
houses. The little lake is still there, but all the nice trees
are gone and it too is surrounded by homes. I guess time marches
on as they say and change is inevitable but I do miss the ol'
     place.

It's funny ,but if someone ever told me that I'd be going to law
school in a former seminary I would have look at him and
said... You gotta' be nuts.. But then again truth is stranger
than fiction . Good ol' Roosevelt Road is still there and
if you got about a mile down the road, heading east, past the
school it will intersect a brand new Interstate 355 that runs
north and south. Back when we were there that was all farm land
and a two lane highway that went about as far south as Joliet.

Lets see..... when I was there the third and fourth floor of the
front of the building were faculty offices and the second and
first floors were devoted to classrooms. The graduation
ceremonies always took place in the chapel and all of the dorm
rooms surrounding the Chapel were used for on campus students.

Before I forget if you haven't already found it take a look at
    www.dmdservicesinc,com/gallery.aspx?catid1Ecat_naun=Seminary.
It's a web site that shows the demolition process. If you can't
get the site just do a Google search of DMD Demolition Services in
Illinois. You'll get to the web site and then go to the icon
Seminary Demolition. The pictures are interesting but at the same
    time sad.

Oh well, I've been yammering on enough here :-) I'll get my
pictures reproduced and sent to you. Thanks for getting back to
me and allowing me to stroll down 'amnesia lane' from the old
     days in Glen Ellyn.

Best Regards and keep those pictures coming.. they are so good
